Job Summary: The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech and language services to students with communication disorders in a public school setting. The SLP is responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, and related disorders to support academic achievement and social-emotional development in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

 

Qualifications:

1. Education and Licensure:
   • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
   • Valid state license and/or certification in Speech-Language Pathology.
   • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
2. Experience:
   • Experience in a school-based setting is preferred.
   • Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems is a plus.
3. Skills and Abilities:
   • Strong understanding of speech and language development and disorders.
   • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
   • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
   • Proficiency in using assessment tools, therapy materials, and technology for virtual or in-person therapy sessions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assessment and Diagnosis:
   • Conduct screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations of students referred for suspected speech and language impairments.
   • Administer and interpret assessment tools in English and a second language, when applicable, to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate evaluations.
   • Determine eligibility for speech and language services according to state and district guidelines.
2. Intervention and Therapy:
   • Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives tailored to each student’s needs.
   • Provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy services in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
   • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
3. Collaboration and Consultation:
   • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, parents, and other related service providers to integrate communication strategies into the classroom environment.
   • Provide professional development to staff on strategies to support speech and language development in the classroom.
4. • Serve as a member of the IEP team and provide expertise on speech-language services.
5. Documentation and Compliance:
   • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including IEPs, session logs, progress reports, and other required documentation.
   • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
6. Advocacy and Education:
   • Educate students, families, and school staff about speech and language development and disorders.
   • Advocate for students’ communication needs in the educational setting.
