  • Academic Content Areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies)  Secondary:  9 – 12 & 6 – 8;
  • Elementary:  K – 5 (one (1) per grade level);
  • Guidance, 6 – 12;
  • Special Area Subjects, K – 12 (Art, World Language, Music, PE);
  • Special Education (two (2) for Elementary, one (1) for RMS, & one (1) for BHS;
  • Library Media Specialist
  • AP Coordinator

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching or related service experience in specific content area of interest;
  • Meets with Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum and Student Support, Building Principal, Director of PE, Athletics, Nurses and Health (PE Content Coordinator, K-12) or Assistant Superintendent of PPS;
  • Works with District and school administrators to support curriculum and instructional initiatives within the District and/or content area;
  • Supports the District’s vision, mission and core values and implementation of activities to achieve the District’s short and long term goals through teacher leadership among peers;
  • Collaborates and assists in the development and implementation of the District’s annual professional development plan’s activities, as requested during the school year & summer;
  • Ability to carry out job responsibilities as defined in attached job description.

Job Description Content Coordinators

 

Supervised by: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Student Support, Building Principal And/or Assistant Superintendent of PPS

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Student Support, Building Principals, and/ or Assistant Superintendent of PPS

 

Duties:

  • Meets with Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Student Support, Building Principal, Director of PE, Athletics, Nurses and Health (PE Content Coordinator K-12) or Assistant Superintendent of PPS (Special Education Content Coordinators) at least once/month
  • Works with district and school administrators to support curriculum and instructional initiatives within the district and/or content area
  • Supports the district’s vision, mission and core values and implementation of activities to achieve the district’s short and long term goals through teacher leadership among peers.
  • Collaborates and assists in the development and implementation of the district’s annual

professional development plan’s activities, as requested during the school year & summer.

  • Plans and delivers professional development sessions during Superintendent’s Conference Day, and summer professional development offerings as determined necessary (Minimum of 3 conference days during the school year).
  • Makes recommendations to principals, as requested, to inform administrative decisions for master scheduling that maximize student achievement
  • Participates, as requested, in the recruitment, hiring and retention of staff within content area assigned (review of resumes for specific knowledge/skill sets; interview committee member; identification of professional development needs of new teachers; participates in problem- solving sessions among department peers)
  • Assists department colleagues in development of knowledge & skill specific to content area expertise, curriculum planning, effective instructional practices, assessment of student learning.
  • Works with department to develop standards based benchmark assessments.
  • Maintains quality and consistency of instruction in multi-section courses (including assessments pre, mid unit, and end of unit).
  • Ensures continuity in grading practices within the department.
  • Plans schedule & facilitates monthly content area meetings which may include district updates; curriculum development (mapping, alignment, articulation); data collection & analysis to inform student learning progress & program development needs; review of student assessment performance to inform decisions; and management of department instructional materials, software, and department resource needs.
  • Organizes, prepares, & maintains agendas, sign-in sheets and meeting minutes and submits to Assistant Superintendent and Principal per the established schedule.
  • Organizes & maintains communication systems (email, department memo, twitter, etc) in accordance with district established expectations, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assists district and school administrators in the analysis of assessment and accountability data both from the local and State level to inform instructional program needs.
  • Attends & represents the district at state or regional workshops/meetings specifically designed for Department Chairs (or jobs with similar names) to aid in the continuous growth of leadership skills and content knowledge of subject and curricular changes at the local and State level
  • Provides input to principals and school administrators in order to inform administrative scheduling decisions for NYS 3-8 assessments, Regents and testing schedules as well as proctoring and scoring schedules
  • Provides input in the building/content area budgeting process as requested and assists in the procurement process as established by the district.
  • Facilitates department staff in textbook & instructional materials research & selection process including as outlined by district curriculum committee protocols.
  • Facilitates department staff in identifying and developing proposals for curriculum course, curriculum writing projects, and professional development as outlined by district curriculum committee protocols.
  • Attends district curriculum committee meetings as requested to present course, summer projects, and instructional material proposals for district approval.
  • Participates in a mid and end of year evaluation process led by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Student Support or designee.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned by Assistant Superintendent, Building Principal, or designee to address emerging curriculum & instruction and/or department needs.
