About the bryt Program:
bryt (Bridge for Resilient Youth in Transition, pronounced "bright") is a nationally recognized, evidence-based Tier 3 mental health support model developed by the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health. The program bridges the gap between extended mental health-related absences and successful reintegration into the school community. bryt provides holistic, individualized support—combining clinical intervention, academic coordination, and family engagement—so that students experiencing a mental health disruption can return to their full academic schedule and thrive.
At Beacon High School, the bryt program operates a dedicated in-school space staffed daily by a Clinical Coordinator and an Academic Coordinator working in close collaboration.
Position Summary:
Beacon High School seeks a compassionate, organized, and student-centered Teaching Assistant to serve as its bryt program Academic Coordinator. Working in daily partnership with the bryt Clinical Coordinator, the Academic Coordinator provides individualized academic support to students as they transition back to a full course schedule following a mental health-related absence. This role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized academic support to bryt students, helping them complete missed assignments, catch up on course content, and rebuild academic confidence;
- Collaborate daily with the bryt Clinical Coordinator to align academic and clinical support plans for each student;
- Communicate regularly with classroom teachers to gather assignments, coordinate accommodations, and facilitate a smooth academic transition;
- Maintain the bryt room as a welcoming, consistently staffed, and structured learning environment throughout the school day;
- Participate in the development and ongoing review of each student's individualized support plan;
- Support students in developing organizational, study, and self-advocacy skills;
- Attend bryt team meetings, professional development sessions, and relevant school-based meetings;
- Maintain appropriate documentation of student progress and academic coordination activities.
