Job Description: The Beacon City School District (BCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Alternate educational services are provided to any BCSD student who is within compulsory school age and is unable to attend school due to health, safety, or school removal. Tutors work with students that are placed in home instruction for various reasons including but not limited to medical needs. Tutors are assigned student cases on an as needed basis. Once a student has been assigned, the tutors work with assigned students until reassignment.

 

Duties:

  • Provide students with the regulatory instructional time (3 hrs. of instruction daily grades 7-12 for a maximum of 15 hrs. a week; 2 hrs. of instruction daily for grades 1-6 for a maximum of 10 hrs. a week);
  • Pick up and return all instructional assignments and materials in a timely fashion;
  • Provide academic grades to the BCSD;
  • Accept student assignments when contacted – Tutors teach all subjects the student is taking and grade all assignments;
  • Communicate professionally at all times with students and families;
  • Serve as facilitator of learning, maintaining contact with the student’s home school;
  • Submit a timesheet in a timely manner;
  • Make arrangements with the student’s home school to administer NYS assessments if the student is out for a medical reason and unable to return to their home school for testing;
  • Fill out appropriate requests for NYS Regents Exams if the student is out for medical reasons and is unable to return to school for exams (HS only);
  • Keep a log in grades to be submitted to teachers as agreed upon;
  • Submit student attendance to BCSD.

The Beacon City School District seeks candidates who are NYS Certified and/or who are currently enrolled as an Education Major in an accredited College or University to provide instruction in all subject areas to the District’s Elementary, Middle and High Schools on a per diem needed basis.  Must have the knowledge and the ability to use various virtual platforms as needed in relation to the position.

 Daily compensation rates:

  • Non-certified substitutes: $90/day

  • NYS certified substitutes: $115/day

  • Retired Beacon Teachers’ Association substitutes: $125/day
