  • Valid NYS Certification in English as a New Language/English as a Second Language (ENL/ESL) K-12; or
  • Bilingual Education K-12; and/or dual Special Education, 7-12;
  • Dual certification with Childhood Education (K-2, 1-6) or Elementary Education, desired;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the following are required:
    • NYS Learning Standards and curriculum design, delivery, and assessment for NYSESLAT and ENL progressions;
    • Developmental Stages of Language Acquisition Skills for English;
    • Effective, student centered classroom management strategies;
    • Assessment of Home Language Questionnaires and determination of eligibility of ENL services for new entrants;
    • Culturally responsive instructional practices for elementary classrooms;
    • Integration of technology to plan, deliver, and assess student learning;
    • Use of summative and formative student data to inform instructional decisions and student progress for (NYSITEL and NYSESLAT); Effective strategies for student and family engagement;
  • Knowledge/experience of Responsive Classroom, Sheltered Instructional Model, a plus;
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, required;
  • Prior teaching experience desired.

Position Overview: The Beacon City School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate .5 FTE Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs, collaborates well with colleagues and families, and maintains a student-centered approach to instruction and behavior support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching opportunities
  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans and accommodations/modifications
  • Monitor and report student progress toward IEP goals and objectives
  • Conduct and participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education services
  • Culturally responsive instructional practices to support student learning needs
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic and social-emotional growth

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in Students with Disabilities—Birth–Grade 2, Grades 1–6, or All Grades.
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in differentiated instruction, behavior management, and progress monitoring
  • Prior teaching experience preferred, experience in co-taught settings preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with inclusive classrooms or co-teaching
  • Familiarity with IEP development software and data collection systems

The Beacon City School District is seeking qualified and experienced applicants who are NYS Certified to provide instruction in our middle school building on a daily basis for the 2025-2026 school year.

 

  • Experience with online and virtual instruction preferred. 
  • Must be NY State certified and have fingerprint clearance.

$115/day annualized
