COOK MANAGER

(Full time, Monday – Friday, 6 or 6.5 hours per day)

 

ANTICIPATED START DATE: September 2026

 

The Cook Manager is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food in moderately large quantities and the supervision of personnel in the kitchen. The work is performed under general supervision of a School Lunch Director, Manager or other supervisor. Supervision is exercised over the work of Cooks, Food Service Helpers and other school food service staff. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EITHER:     (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or

                         university or technical institute with an Associate's degree, with a specialization in

                         foods, nutrition, dietetics or institution management, AND one (1) year of

                         experience in the preparation and cooking of food in large quantities;

OR:            (B) Three (3) years of experience in the preparation, cooking, serving and storage of

                         large quantities of food;

OR:            (C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (A) and (B)

                        above.

 

NOTE: For the purpose of these minimum qualifications, a typical 10-month, 30+ hours per week position in a school food service program may be considered to be a full year of experience.

FOOD SERVICE WORKERS

 

ANTICIPATED START DATE: September 2026

 

The Beacon City School District is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Food Service Workers.

 

This entry-level position involves assisting with food preparation and service, as well as helping maintain a clean and organized kitchen by cleaning equipment and work areas. Employees may also perform basic cooking tasks that require less experience than those handled by Cooks or Assistant Cooks. Team members work under the guidance of experienced staff and receive support and supervision from higher-level employees.

 

PLEASE NOTE: The Beacon City School District anticipates multiple Food Service Worker openings for the 2026–2027 school year. The number, location, shift, and specific assignment of positions will be determined based on scheduling and staffing considerations.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of large-scale preparation, cooking and serving of food and the care of tableware, glassware, and kitchen appliances;
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions;

  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
