CUSTODIAL WORKERS

 

The Beacon City School District seeks motivated individuals to join our team as Per Diem Custodial Workers.

 

Position Overview:

This work requires efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks under general supervision of custodians or senior custodial workers.  The work of employees in this class involves the thorough execution of tasks which follow a well established routine.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Dusts chairs, tables, desks and other furniture; moves furniture as required to perform duties;
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, bathrooms, tubs and bowls;
  • Sweeps, mops and washes floors;
  • Strips and waxes floors;
  • Cleans and maintains building exteriors;
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse;
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and brass;
  • May be required to perform or assist in minor repairs;
  • May be required to perform maintenance chores such as painting or snow removal;
  • May be required to operate a school bus, if physically fit, qualified and properly licensed;
  • May be required to make deliveries and run errands;
  • Does related work as required.

Per Diem Groundskeepers26-27-021

GROUNDSKEEPERS

 

The Beacon City School District seeks motivated individuals to join our team as Per Diem Groundskeepers.

 

Position Overview:

This routine manual work involves maintaining grounds and equipment found in a recreation program or at an institution or facility.  Work is performed under general supervision with assignments being outlined in detail and spot-checked by inspections. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Mows, rakes and cuts grass;
  • Cleans grounds of trash, debris, and similar material;
  • Maintains lawns, grounds, playing fields, and playground equipment;
  • Levels, grades and removes stones;
  • Removes snow from walkways and other areas;
  • Spreads sand and salt;
  • Assists in miscellaneous activities such as moving heavy objects;
  • Assists in other groundskeeping activities, such as seeding, fertilization, and watering lawns;
  • Transplants seedlings and plants and cares for trees and shrubs, including clipping and pruning;
  • Performs general maintenance tasks in the preparation and care of baseball, football and soccer fields as well as fences, goals, stands and other related equipment;
  • Operates incinerator, removes garbage and delivers garbage to landfill;
  • Maintains equipment used in grounds maintenance;
  • Assists in maintenance of roads and driveways;
  • Drives motor equipment as required for maintenance tasks.

Per Diem Maintenance Mechanics26-27-022

MAINTENANCE MECHANICS

 

The Beacon City School District seeks motivated individuals to join our team as Per Diem Maintenance Mechanics.

 

Position Overview:

This work involves a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks of a generally skilled nature. Employees are expected to be able to perform or learn to perform a wide variety of duties within the field of building maintenance and repair, and may also be required to perform grounds maintenance tasks when necessary.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervises and/or performs skilled repairs to plumbing, steam lines, electric wiring and equipment, furniture, doors and windows, hardware and varied mechanical equipment and machinery;
  • Installs shelving, storage cabinets and new hardware, and performs other skilled carpentry tasks;
  • Does skilled painting work;
  • Maintains and repairs central heating systems;
  • Performs grounds maintenance and maintains athletic and playground facilities;
  • Makes inspections of property to ascertain repair needs;
  • Estimates material required for repairs;
  • Performs snow and ice control activities;
  •  May keep daily time and material records.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various building construction trades sufficient to be able to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair activities on facilities;
  • Knowledge of routine grounds maintenance sufficient to lead and participate in lawn and athletic field maintenance;
  • Ability to learn new repair or installation procedures to perform non-routine repairs;
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others;
  • Ability to understand oral and written directions;
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions;
  • Personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Qualifications:

  • EITHER: (A) One year of work experience as a journeyman in a skilled trade, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry or steam-fitting; 
  • OR:  (B) Four years of experience in either general building construction or in building maintenance work; 
  • OR:  (C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (A) and (B) above.
  • NYS Fingerprinting clearance required

$25.54/hour
