Position Overview: The Beacon City School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs, collaborates well with colleagues and families, and maintains a student-centered approach to instruction and behavior support.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching opportunities
  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans and accommodations/modifications
  • Monitor and report student progress toward IEP goals and objectives
  • Conduct and participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education services
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic and social-emotional growth

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1–6) or equivalent
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in differentiated instruction, behavior management, and progress monitoring

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with inclusive classrooms or co-teaching
  • Familiarity with IEP development software and data collection systems

Compensation Per BTA Contract

$58,000 (BA Step 1) - $64,000 (MA Step 1)
